Monsters=Squirrels

Happy Monday!  We did it!  I only have 1 more Monday until our winter break!!  I can't wait!!

Today I had an epiphany.  Shocker I know.  I don't get these often.  And it's not even a monumental life changing classroom altering one...it's just a silly analogy that popped into my warped mind.  Have you met me?!  My mind is a unique place that is capable of so much...but yet produces so little....it's the ADD I te....ooo glitter!...

Anyways....did you know I have a fear of squirrels?  Like a serious phobia.  Like I am a 3hljilsndh year old man and I have been known to call my mommy who lives 4 hours away because the big, mean, scary squirrel was barking (growling and roaring is more like it!) at me and was blocking the door so he could take me captive and take me to his squirrel leader.  And do untold horrors to me.  They are dangerous, vicious conspirators who are plotting to take over the world.  They look all cute and fuzzy with those bushy tails.  Yeah right.  They're just waiting for you to focus on that tail so they gnaw your face off.  True story.  Google it.  Squirrel attacks are up.  Up people!!!  Take a stroll at the park or on a college campus.  Those squirrels look at you like dinner.  They don't move.  They aren't scared.  They're plotting.  The Maya's ain't got nothing on the squirrels.  Anyways, so today I realized that sometimes, my little monsters are like squirrels.  Cute, cuddly, with adorable fuzzy tails.  Then BAM!  they turn on you and gnaw your face off.  OK...maybe not your face...but those cute looks can be deceiving sometimes!  You know it's true!  I am just thankful that I have a sweet group who worked hard to day so we could get some testing done.  And so far our data is PHENOMENAL!  My squirrels monsters rock!

Today I am linking up with  A Teeny Tiny Teacher and Miss Kindergarten for a 12 in 12 Linky Party to share my 12 favorite things of 2012!  And what a year to share!!  Here ya go...a  year long journey with Mr. Greg aboard the Kindergarten Smorgasboard express!    I hope you're all ready!

12.  My Favorite Movie
Hmmm I would say Bridesmaids because I laughed so hard from the beginning to the end of that movie.  I cackled so hard my abs (wait, do I have those anymore...stupid muffin top) were sore!

11.  Favorite TV Series
Right now it has to be the "The New Normal" on NBC!  If you haven't watched it, please do.  It's super funny and is also pretty powerful.  It hits home because it portrays the journey we hope to be on very soon.  And any show that uses the F word and the R word in the same sentence wins in my book!  In fact, the grandmother in the show has been called the Archie Bunker of our time...

10.  Favorite Restuarant
ZAXBYS!  I love me some chicken tenders.  And this place has the best.  They finally opened one near us (see reference to muffin top above!) and I am so happy they did!

9.  Favorite New Thing I've Tried
I would have to say blogging.  Seriously, I was so terrified of rejection and no one wanting to trudge through my insane ramblings.  But here we are, 110,000 page views later and some of you are still reading.  Some of you are trying to figure out how to get me out of your news feed and others just check back to see if I've finally gone over the edge!  Seriously, this has been an amazing journey that has made me into a much better and much more effective teacher.  New friends.  A network of the best teachers in the world to share ideas and support and guide me.

And you know what they say (picture it...me, crying, tears flowing...), You like me, you really like me!  Who would have thought that so many people would want to read the stories from a male kindergarten teacher!  All I can say to each of you who reads and comments and supports me, is THANK YOU!  I am loving this journey we are on together!

8.  Favorite Gift Received
That's easy.  My red Vespa, LooseWheel Ball!  Best. Present. EVER.  The mister got her as my wedding present!  I love zipping around on her!  And the glittery helmet.  Nuff said.

7.  Favorite Thing I Pinned

Really?!  Just one?!  I have 4,002 pins and you want me to pick one?!  I love Pinterest!  The ideas that I have found and used have transformed my classroom, my teaching and my life!  Hmmmm the favorite....it has to be this one!

Just because.

6.  Favorite Blog Post

This one.  Because it is the first.  The one that started it all.

5.  Favorite Accomplishment:

No words needed.

4.  Favorite Picture

This was a huge surprise to us!  We had not idea this was happening until we got out pictures back recently!! BEST. DAY. EVER.

3.  Favorite Memory

I picked two pictures because my favorite memory was of course my wedding!

My reaction (yes, do you hear the teenage girl squeals?!  I own it people.  I ain't embarrassed.) to seeing my Vespa.  I had been led to believe by family, friends, wedding party, strangers, small children and the mister that the Vespa was sold.  A no go.  And then I hear ZOOOOOM ZOOOOM BEEP BEEP!

And a picture is worth a 1,000 words...

2.  Goal for 2013

Be a better teacher.  Be a better husband.  Be more organized.  Be more creative.  Be more funny.

1.  One Little Word

  2. I love glitter too! Well, I'm not afraid of squirrels, but I have this fear of spiders. I even had to track down a coworker to kill one in my classroom last week. I refused to step on it. I was afraid it would crawl up my pants or something.

Just so you know, I thought of you today. I am aiming to have my kids leave school every day this week in a hat. Today it was reindeer.

  5. Oh my goodness! Noone ever believes me but I once got chased by a squirrel! At my college, the joke was that the squirrels ran the school. They were everywhere! I wasn't ever scared of them but one day I was eating a bag of M&Ms and the squirrel got closer... then closer... then closer and I got freaked out so I started walking away and the little bugger followed me! I had a little flashback when I read the beginning of your post!
All the best to you and yours in 2013,
